Inventory Manager

RATE $ 45, 000- $ 50, 000 per year (dependant upon qualifications) 40 hours per week

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Acadia First Nation (AFN), owns and operates seven (7) businesses throughout our Mi’kmaw communities.  These facilities, include restaurants, gas stations with fuel and furnace oil, VLT’s for entertainment, drive thru for tobacco and ancillary services, and store front locations for products and services.  AFN is currently recruiting for an Inventory Manager, on a full-time basis, to liaison with Store Managers across locations, support Inventory Clerks, and provide product management, pricing, distribution and a comprehensive inventory tracking system for store operations to meet inventory requirements.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

POS Systems & Inventory Control
  • Maintain accurate inventory levels in the system through regular inventory counts across all departments tracking monthly, quarterly and YTD results
  • Maintain hard copy files of all inventory work
  • Trouble shoot scanning and invoice entry issues to maintain accuracy
  • Seek out negative inventory counts, why they happened and make changes to avoid in the future
  • Work with finance and store management to maximize profits on programs such as Gift Cards, Debit / Credit systems and prepaid cards
  • Monthly reports on sales/gross margins and inventory levels provided to the Band Manager
  • Identify possible theft in stores through inventory result trends and work with store management to remedy
  • Support finance on year end reports and through audit process
  • Data entry of inventory received in support of inventory clerks
Price Optimization
  • Maintain pricing strategies by market to leverage the maximum possible gross margin dollars and maintain a competitive retail profile
  • Continuous monitoring of competition in relation to tobacco prices and maximize gross margins in a constantly changing environment
  • Leverage our POS systems to provide seasonal “sales” to drive traffic and customer satisfaction
Vendor Management
  • Where possible leverage the combined retail volumes of our multiple locations to secure better cost prices, larger rebates, favorable payment terms and better service levels
  • Work with Store Managers on assortments and vendors to improve store offerings and pricing
  • Vendor specific analysis to refine assortments and weed out non-profitable suppliers
  • Secure over and above payments for cultural events such as the Pow Wow, Harvest Feast and #JStrong golf tournament
Food Service
  • Provide guidance and leadership to our food service businesses as it relates to menu planning, costing, pricing and profitability
  • Provide detailed reporting at a category and item level and make recommendations to maximize sales and profit
  • Track all purchases and provide monthly reports of sales and food costs to Band Manager
Quota Tobacco
  • Manage quota allocation by store and adjust as necessary
  • Maintain quota margins on a quarterly basis
  • Maintain customer tracking and point system to optimize sales and maintain inventory levels
  • Monitor monthly customer allowances and make recommendations based on monthly inventory results
  • Liaise with NS Government on quota allowance based on Band population
  • Monthly sales and profit reports provided to the Band Manager

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post-secondary education in business /retail/hospitality
  • 5+ years’ experience in inventory, distribution and operational procedures
  • 2+ years’ supervisory experience
  • Able to multi-task and work independently
  • Proven leadership skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • In-depth understanding of distribution workplaces
  • Excellent knowledge of data analysis and forecasting methods and excel
  • Working knowledge of inventory management software
  • Ability to accurately track inventory and create reports
  • An analytical mind with strong math skills
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills
  • Reliable and trustworthy
