RATE $17.00 per hour/36 hours per week
POSITIONS One (1) term position available
DURATION Estimated 6 months in 2021, 12 months in 2022 and three months in 2023
LOCATION Kempt – Mersey Tobeatic Research Institute

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Acadia First Nation (AFN), in engaging Mi’kmaw communities and individuals in Kespukwitk regarding conservation is hiring a Mi’kmaw Environmental Stewardship and Communications Liaison to communicate, engage and support logistics planning with Mi’kmaw communities, Elders, cultural leaders, fieldworkers, project contractors and partner organizations for conservation initiatives and project opportunities. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Engage Mi’kmaw communities and individuals in Kespukwitk on conservation initiatives and project opportunities
  • Organize and host community input sessions or conduct surveys (focus on virtually through pandemic)
  • Update project website and social media
  • Communicate between community Elders/cultural leaders or knowledge holders for conservation project meetings
  • Coordinate partnerships between fieldworkers and collaborators
  • Create communication materials
  • Help plan project activities such as youth camps or ecological field trips
  • Collaborate with other Acadia First Nation Ecology staff
  • Oversee project sub-budget, timelines, workplans and deliverables
  • Write quarterly and year-end reports
  • Communicate with funders, AFN Chief and Council, project contractors and partner organizations
  • Adhere to AFN policies and procedures

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Good understanding of Mi’kmaw culture and communities
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Previous work experience in related fields of environment/natural resources and community engagement, event-planning and communication
  • Extensive understanding of ecology or natural resources (from Mi’kmaw community perspectives or mainstream trained perspectives)
  • Valid drivers’ license and access to a vehicle
  • Valid criminal record check and child abuse registry clearance to work with youth
